Now that we’ve got the shameless self promotion bit outta the way, let’s do some music! Since it’s summer now, you may find yourself engaged in long, time-consuming activities… like;  lounging by the pool, taking in the sunset, heading across country on a road trip, cruising around town, pregaming for the party and the list goes on. So, to meet your needs, today I’ve got a bunch of DJ mixes to help you pass the time! We’ve got mixes provided by Northend, Damn Kids and myself! Also included, an excellent free downloadable mash-up brought to us by Markus Cole! Let’s go!

==============================================================================

Up first, we have a newcomer to The BreakdownNorthend.

Daniel Wagner Cash aka Northend was born into a life music. His cousins are musicians. His uncles are musicians. His mother isn’t a musician; but she may as well be. His father, Peter Cash… rhythm guitarist, singer, and songwriter for Juno Award winning band, Skydiggers; is a musician. His Grandmother, who attempted to teach him piano, is a musician. Nearly every branch in Daniel’s family tree has got music notes beautifully budding.

Having spent the majority of his life surrounded by bands and instruments, Daniel was chomping at the bit for his turn. At 17, a friend introduced him to Electronic Dance Music through tracks like In My Memory and Adagio For Strings by Tiesto. This introduction was a catalyst for Daniel. He had discovered a new way he could express his love for music.

At 21, Daniel moved from Toronto, Canada, to London, UK, in an effort to immerse himself in the rich culture of electronic music that the city had to offer. Spending a year in a small room equipped with a laptop and headphones, he began perfecting his sound of melodic builds and partnering them with massive drops. That simple. That effective.

After showcasing Keep It Down and October on SoundCloud, Northend did what all aspiring producers do; started sending his friends his music. A short time later, he was signed with Provoke from Toronto, Canada. Northend is currently in the midst of preparing to release his first 3 singles, and has tour dates in North America alongside the likes of Chris Lake, Michael Woods, and Autoerotique.

Northend‘s July 2012 mixtape is a great mix of big name artists, some lesser-known artists and a tasty mix of banging heaters and beautiful progressive beats. The tenth track in this mix is my favorite song at the moment. I highly suggest you check it out!!

Next, we’ve got Damn Kids… who is no stranger to The Breakdown. Having been featured three(1)(2)(3) times in the past, it’s pretty clear that I’m a fan of Stephane Deschenes and hopefully some of you are, too. Last time he was featured, we were showcasing his Yema EP, which received massive support and charted in the Electronica :: Top 100 on Beatport. The time before that it was his Zeds Dead bootleg and the time before that it was his Choke EP! The guy is extremely hard working and forward thinking.

What I dig the most about Stephane is his uniqueness and originality. His sound is one that is definitely his own and his July 2012 mixtape is the perfect example of that. Taking a quick look at the tracklisting, and I can only recognize two familiar track names.  This mix includes a great mix of genres; from house to trap!

Other interesting points for Damn Kids… his upcoming EP on Trouble & Bass is scheduled to be released in October 2012. Trouble & Bass is the label of AC Slater and Drop The Lime! His next EP out on Provoke is scheduled for July 2012. Listen carefully to the mix and you may hear special!

To wrap up today’s post, let’s finish with a delicious free download from a regular of The BreakdownMarkus Cole! Markus takes us on a trip back to the 80′s with his newest offering, Hungry Like WTF. He’s taken Nicky Romero’s massive release, WTF, and mashed up with Duran Duran’s, Hungry Like The Wolf, which is arguably one of the most well-known songs of the 80′s. Markus teases us with echoing vocal samples right from the get-go until we reach the break, where those hugely famous lyrics shine. That massive drop hits and it’s rage time. Markus does a great job at sampling the vocals through out the track, which really adds another level of originality and uniqueness. The second break is comprised of those delicious vocals again and one gigantic build! Drop. Rage. Repeat.

Have a listen to the track below and then make sure you head over to Markus’ SoundCloud and take advantage of the free download!
