The Drop 013

May 6, 2012

Hey guys! I’ve got a lot of saaweeet tracks to share with you today. Gotta love EDM. Makes you feel so good! Let me know what you think after The Drop!

I’ve always been a big fan of Wolfgang Gartner. Pretty much everything, minus the stuff he has released of late, is just GOLDEN. It was rumoured that Wolfgang spent some 100+ hours making Illmerica. Who knows if this is true or not. I guess it doesn’t really matter. What does matter though is that the end of his long process resulted in a really great song. Steve Camp posted this one about a year ago. It’s a mashup with Justice’s We Are Your Friends. It’s one of those vocals that everyone loves to sing along to. Illmerica + We Are Your Friends = Awesomeness!!!

Our editor’s favourite version of this track comes in the form of the Joey Suki remix with a simple but effective Joey Suki bassline that keeps your head bobbing underneath the classic vocals.

Have any of you been following Santigold? She just released her album Master of My Make-Believe. The one track that has been pushed the most has to be Disparate Youth. No, that is not a spelling mistake. I really like the play on words in the title though :p.  The original song is phenominal. I like every little bit. The only problem is the tempo (if youre a DJ that spins 128 bpm house music that is). Gorgon City made a remix at the proper tempo for house. The chorus is a little long but it could definitely still make a dancefloor move!

Diplo. That guy in those Blackberry commercials a couple months ago, also making up half of the duo known as Major Lazer. I would say they are most famous for Pon De Floor, Hold Yuh (Remix), and more recently Original Don. Well anyways, I was at the Lunenburg (formerly Minglewoods) in Ottawa a couple weeks ago. This place really doesn’t suit EDM however, the night I was there the DJ BuknRITE was spinning some sick sh!t. I stole this one off him. It’s called Express Yourself. Have a listen. It is BOMB!!!

If you have been to any Top 40 bar/club in North America, been watching any mainstream music channel or even listened to the radio recently then you have probably heard the song Rack City. I’m not one mainstream music but this is for sure a catchy one. As an EDM DJ I am always looking for ways to creatively play popular music. It’s kind of like… a compromise of sorts. JSTJR made this one. It is more than club worthy. Its got electro, lots of bass and as a plus the vocals have been somewhat chopped and screwed. Grrrr. Awesome! Check it!

Just in case you need a reminder of the original, here’s the Tyga hip hop tune with a hilarious video.

To finish off the post I’m going to leave you with my favorite song that I found this week. It is straight up electro-house at it’s finest. It has some great synths screaming epicness and then, at 1:52, DROP. So sick. Check out Clockwork’s Airflow. The original is sick but the remix by Valerna is even sicker! It almost sounds like that air-horn from the movie Inception. PhhRRRRRRRrrrrrrrr…

Here’s the remix:

If you dont know what Im talking about with that sound from Inception then you can find it in this video :)
