Welcome to what will become a weekly blog here on DJ Mag Canada dedicated solely to the trance genre.
Anything from new releases, to old gems, to album reviews – you will be able to find here.
This week I’m going to feature a few choice tracks that have been released in the past few weeks.
Markus Schulz & Dennis Sheperd – Go!
Markus gives us an early taste of what we can expect from his artist album later this year. Both installments of Thoughts Become Things are works of art to put it lightly which makes a new album incredibly exciting to any fan. His collaborator, fellow German Dennis Sheperd is a name to watch this year. The successful release of his album A Tribute to Life including the heavily supported Fallen Angel featuring Ana Criado and this big collaboration with the Unicorn Slayer serve as proof that Sheperd is on his way up. Take some time to look into the album, it’s worth your while.
Alexander Popov – Attractive Force
Catching support from the likes of AvB in the ASOT 550 shows, it’s really no wonder why. It’s the perfect trance formula including a big punchy melody, calm vocal break and driving bassline. Overall – a great track from the Russian producer.
Sunlounger & Zara Taylor – Try To Be Love (Roger Shah Naughty Love Remix)
You’ll recognize these two names in collaboration from Lost which was named the tune of the year by A State of Trance in 2008. Roger Shah A.K.A. Sunlounger A.K.A. the unrivaled king of balearic trance. Just in time for summer he collaborates with Zara to give us another track worthy of the islands, waves, and sand. If you haven’t heard Lost, now is a really good time to discover it.
Cathy Burton & Omnia – Hearts Connected
The talented Cathy Burton has graced electronic music with her voice for many years now. Her vocals accompany a track produced by one of the most exciting trance producers this year. Most recently you’ll recognize Omnia as being credited with being one of the producers of the tune The Fusion. This song is my personal pick for the best trance release of the year so far. With support from all the kings; Omnia is making waves and this collaboration is no exception.
Andrew Bayer feat. Molly Bancroft – Keep Your Secrets
Andrew Bayer is surely one of the most interesting and unique producers in EDM at the moment. His album It’s Artificial which was released last year touched on a multitude of genres and sounds. The vocals and the overall feel of the song are just different in a way that you need to listen to the track to understand.
Sied Van Riel – Tunnel Vision
Sied Van Riel is another who frequently transverses the genre lines. I don’t really have any words to describe this track, it’s one of those songs that is definitely not for anyone. I’d really like to hear this in a live set scenario on proper speakers. It’s got a different energy to it.
That wraps it up for this week.
Enjoy the tunes whether they are new to you or old news – until next time.
