This week, the Wet Coast is jumping right back in the mix with a continuation of last week’s ‘Know Your Venue’ feature. We previously checked out the dance floors, sound systems and bumping vibes of Celebrities, Commodore Ballroom and Fortune Sound Club. This week we take it even further, dropping in on an after hours club and Vancouver’s sexiest house music spot. With exceptional events constantly going down at these venues, Wet Coasters should pay special attention; because knowing your venue is the de-facto key to navigating a surplus of nightlife options, and most importantly, to ensuring your dance music satisfaction.
Ginger 62, 1219 Granville Street
Ginger 62 sticks out amongst the countless other clubs and bars of the Granville Entertainment District—and not just because of the sexy-looking line of people continually at the door. An established club in the ever-changing nightlife industry, Ginger has it’s branding worked out: they employ a veteran, fun-loving staff, offer a luxuriously appointed and intimate interior and attract a clientele that is young, professional and likes to party. In the past year or two, Ginger has made considerable efforts to include house music as part of it’s persona—much to the delight of Vancouver’s dance music fans. With a steady flow of top international DJs and talented residents—not to mention mesmerizing burlesque dancers and themed nights—Ginger has positioned itself as a top party spot for those craving some BPM. Adding to Ginger’s strengths is the large and laid-back bottle service area, which is not only the best in the city, but also provides an intimate-yet-energetic spot from which to observe the madness unfolding on the dance floor below. If bottle service isn’t your thing, the club boasts ample sitting and chilling areas, making great conversations not only possible, but probable. It is this multi-dimensional nature of Ginger that makes it a club worthy of praise. Ginger can be whatever you want it to be: an up-tempo lounge with a loyal and awesome crowd, a bumping, full-service club hosting premier international DJs or a seductive spot that can provide thrills and chills. In sum, Ginger is hot, without the mess.

Gorg-O-Mish Afterhours, 695 Smithe Street
As Vancouver’s top legal afterhours club, Gorg-O-Mish is open from about 2 a.m. until 8 a.m. on the weekends. With a low-key entrance just off Granville Street, the third-floor room often houses legions of late-night partiers, which can only be revealed to those who venture inside its reverberating, renovated walls. With a bass-heavy sound system pumping out trance, techno and tech-house, revelers can experience that rolling, authentic feel of dance music as it was meant to be heard—loud and at all hours. Plus, with a diversified space complete with various tables, nooks and couches, everyone has a place they can chat with friends or just simply zone out in. And, like many after hours clubs, Gorg-O-Mish is a place where you can listen to the newest music played by the best resident DJs. So what’s the best thing at Gorg-O-Mish? It’s taking up a spot in the middle of the dance floor, staring right at the DJ and being surrounded by people who live for the music, no matter what time it is. Oh, and don’t forget their rocking summer boat party!
