The Drop 009

April 8, 2012

Hey there all you DJ Mag readers. I have a lot to tell you about what I’ve discovered over the past week so I’ll jump right into it.

Alright, so I know UMF (Ultra Music Festival) is over and done with but I was going over the highlight videos from this year and came across this gem. Watching this gives me goosebumps galore. It’s a preview for a feature film, which aired only two nights in March in the U.S. Hopefully there will be a DVD version or a torrent to download because I really want to see the rest. This movie looks friggin’ sweet! Can You Feel It – The UMF Experience is somewhat of a documentary. It looks into the DJ’s accounts of what the festival was like for them and what EDM has come to be today. Enough talking about it. Just watch and be prepared to shed a tear or two out of EDM joy.

On to other festival news … Ohhhhhh you’re gonna love this! Two awesome festival lineups were just announced. I want so badly to go to both of these … the only problem is they take place on the same weekend! That’s right. Canada Day weekend whether you’re in Toronto or Ottawa it is going to be f*%&ing epic.

Last year Escapade Music Festival by DNA PRESENTS took Ottawa by storm. Tiësto, Laidback Luke and Calvin Harris tore up the downtown core with a EDM festival Ottawa has never seen before. This year DNA up’d their game… big time! EMF boasts an insane lineup. Avicii, Afrojack, Alesso, Dada Life, Chuckie, Thomas Gold, Sander Van Doorn, R3HAB, Gareth Emery, Tommy Trash and MORE STILL! On top of which the capacity in going to be sitting around 15,000 people. Can I get a HELL YEAH?!?! Watch the trailer for last years festival here. This year’s promo vid isn’t up yet, but check out the Facebook page for the event here.

Next up is Toronto’s first ever edition of Digital Dreams. Hosted by Electronic Nation at The Flats at M.C.A. (formerly Ontario Place). Phase one of the lineup includes Afrojack, Richie Hawtin, Duck Sauce, Steve Lawler, Chuckie, R3HAB, A-Trak, Autoerotique, Kaskade, Dubfire, Alesso, Designer Drugs, Mark Knight and more. VIP presale starts on April 11 and regular presale on April 12. The official webpage can be found here. As far as I know Toronto has yet to have an outdoor EDM festival like this. I can’t believe it’s going to be at Ontario Place! Ive been to a couple rock shows when I was younger but that was only inside The Molson Amphitheatre (which is on the island). This festival is taking place on the entire island with not one, but two stages! Both festivals are going to be one not to miss. The choice is up to you as to which to attend!

Next up … some actual music! Morgan Page released his new album, In The Air earlier this week. The first track on the album, In The Air is a must hear. Angela McClusky’s vocals and Morgan’s entrancing melodies are so soothing. Mord Fustang made a remix of this song, which reached Top 10 on Beatport earlier this year. I can’t wait to hear what other remixes are to come from this track alone. Other tracks to take special note to on this album are Body Work (which features the vocals of Canadian twins, Teegan and Sarah,) Missing and Video (also featuring Teegan and Sarah). The album as a whole is super chill. Put this one on on a road trip or when you’re looking for something to play at an after, after party haha. That is … unless you’re looking to rage some more!

The album is available now on Beatport and iTunes and the singles mentioned above can be listened to below as well as the YouTube video for Body Work! Enjoy!
