It looks like my month of March has been permeated with nothing but Tycho Records. This is not a bad thing. This past Saturday the crew pulled out all the stops to bring the city of Calgary an extremely memorable ill.Gates show. Aside from ill.Gates, the show featured Zakk nu Leaf, Jnana, Treblsum vs Melo.Nade and _kAto vs. Boggs.

As I previously mentioned, the Tycho crew went above and beyond. We arrived at what I thought was early to an already packed dance floor and a line outside the Distillery. Coming down the stairs, the first thing that I noticed was the bass. There was a full PK rig in the house providing the sonic atmosphere. As I made my descent and the music became clearer I could tell there were some extremely dope tracks being dropped. I usually miss the openers, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn it was the second DJ of the night, Tycho’s own Jnana. Despite the rad tunes the music was lost on me as soon as I laid eyes on the stage. The Space Invaderz did an amazing job creating a 3D owl with beautiful color changing wings. If I am not mistaken, the staging was inspired by a somewhat recent ill.Gates release, the ill.Methodology collab project. Once I was able to stop staring at the stage, I got straight into getting down. If it wasn’t enough to have the most gorgeous stage and best sound, the Tycho crew also had two of Calgary’s best photographers on site, Stoked on Photos and AllieKat to capture the night. After Jnana, Treblsum and Melo.Nade graced the stage to drop some more glitch, and the sold out dancefloor seriously bulked up. I have to admit I missed most of their set because I had the most epically hilarious interview with ill.Gates during that time. Let me just say this about ill.Gates: as well as being a sick producer and DJ he is the friendliest, funniest, most interesting dude ever!

_Kato and Boggs heated the already steaming dance floor to a fever pitch before ill.Gates graced the stage. Despite blowing a breaker or something weird happening part way through his set ill.Gates killed it as usual. I’ve had his last track “My Special Place” bouncing through my head all week. Not only is it a great track that gives me “that special feeling”, which I have talked about before, but there’s also a really awesome video for it.
Oh man, what a great night! Thanks again to the Tycho Crew for putting in the extra effort to make it all happen. It’s shows like this that make Calgary really amazing. Our city is underrated by so many. If you’re reading this, you guys rock!
