Welcome back to The Breakdown! On Monday, I shared with you some groovin’ Techno beats. Today, we had beautiful weather in Winnipeg – so I’ve got a few tunes perfect for sunny days, cruisin’ in your car with the windows down. Take advantage of this beautiful weather were having!
For those of you who have been with us for a while now, think back to our post that featured Winnipeg’s Tyler Crichton‘s EP Promo … remember how sweet that was? If you don’t remember – go back and check it out! You definitely don’t want to miss out on that. Anyways, moving on to the reason we’re talking about Tyler again – he’s released a free download a couple days ago perfect to destroy the clubs. He’s remixed Dorrough‘s I.D.G.A.F. and turned it into a straight Electro heater built to shake asses. Perfectly worked vocals for people to sign along to – plus everyone loves an excuse to yell a cuss word every now and then. Tyler went a completely different route than he normally does and it definitely paid off. Straying away from his heavier Electro – this track has an 8-bit groovy, playful feel to it. This remix gets turned up a notch on the second drop, with the addition of a minor Dutch house flair to it! Have a listen to it below and make sure you grab the free download!

Secondly, we’ve got a funky Disco tune from a guy by the name of U-Tern, from Vancouver, B.C.. I don’t know much about U-Tern, other than that he is also part of the duo, Oliver. Another name I have personally not heard before. He’s got a single EP released to Beatport last year, Dec. 5, through Bigfoot Records. There wasn’t much background information on Vaughn Oliver (U-Tern) to be found. I reached out to him earlier this March, but was unable to get in touch! There was this to be said on his Facebook…
Taken from U-Tern’s Facebook…
“Garnering universal respect from peers is not common for DJs-come-producers. U-Tern somehow managed it, and a reputation is steadily building for this humble Vancouverite. Spreading his obvious infatuation for all things music through his blog and weekly radio show, U-Tern is one of those individuals whose passion and drive are enviable. All that is secondary though: immaculate, charming disco-funk tracks are the standout here. U-Tern’s use of real instruments and his exceptional production chops translate into truly authentic pieces of music striking that balance between nostalgia and the 21st century.” – URB Magazine (March 2009)
What I do know … is that this next beat is about as funky fresh as it gets. You Don’t Know Me by U-Tern was uploaded to SoundCloud just under a month ago – and sine then it has been played 65,000 times and downloaded 11,000 times … quite spectacular in my opinion. This track runs at 105 bpm and would work perfectly to add a little old-school flair to a Moombahton set. It starts out with a catchy beat, the bass slowly starts making it’s way in and you sense that it is Disco time. This is definitely one I’ll be playing out. I’m a big fan of the added piano work in the middle. Make sure you download this one and throw it in your set! Or on your iPod! Spring has arrive and Summer is near!
Lastly, another bit from U-Tern. This one isn’t a free download however, so make sure you follow him on SoundCloud so you can stream it from your phone in your car!
Now, just because it’s not a free download doesn’t mean it’s not worth your time. This one is definitely worth your time and is something I normally wouldn’t listen to, but it’s just amazing. This time, it’s U-Tern who has taken a step outside of his comfort zone – and gone dabbling in the world of Trap. I don’t know much about the genre, but this tune is chocked full of smooth bass lines and intricate drum work that is just dying to have some serious rap spit over top of. There’s a couple hard-hitting, yet melodic, dubstep breakdowns that completely took me by surprise. With or without them, this track would’ve been sick, but I’m glad they were there. They fit in effortlessly and added a little extra attitude. This one goes hard. Check it out!
