Hollywood- T.Mills (R/D remix)- A Track Review, K. Lea
I have been sitting on a precious gem for over a week. This R/D remix of T. Mills’ “Hollywood” showed up in my inbox, and I have been so busy I had my ignore blinders on. Catching up on life, I gave it a listen and loved it! It fits into the genre I call “that special feeling”. I don’t really know how to explain this in words, you just have to feel it. Notable contenders in the last few years for “that special feeling” have been Young Montana? with their track “Sacre Cool” , Evol Intent’s “Middle of the Night”, Bonobo’s “Eyesdown” feat. Andreya Triana, and probably most generic and obvious of all Skream’s Let’s Get Ravey Remix of La Roux’s “Going in for the Kill”.
Regardless of me loving this track I had to do some research on the originator, T. Mills. I wish I hadn’t. Maybe I’m just old, but from what I could tell he is a slightly edgier Justin Bieber. I’m not really sure how R/D heard him, but I’m glad he chose to make T. Mills better. Because his other music is possibly the worst thing I have heard this year of 2012. I have come to terms with the fact that I am getting too old to keep my finger on the pulse of everything that is cool, and some things I just won’t get. T. Mills is evidently 1 of those things. Big ups to R/D, but I am still slightly pissed about being “Milly rolled” as a friend of mine so eloquently versed it.
A special note about R/D: Despite being based in California, R/D has a fairly recent release on a local Calgary label Tycho Records. There is a piece coming out on Tycho later this week, so watch for it!
