THE name ‘Cosmic Relaxation Center Paradiso’ could only really be a product of hippy ideals and very strong dope, so the formation of Paradiso – in what was once a church – in 1968 was very much rooted in its time and place.
While also a live venue, based around new wave initially and now hosting everyone from soul stalwart Al Green to arch pop manipulator Lady Gaga, the early ’80s saw it develop into a club space which grew more prevalent as rave overran the city, Vip Club and Noodlanding! amongst the longest running nights.
With a 1500-capacity main room, and the appropriately named 250 person small hall, this has since grown to include music festivals but the rave spirit still shines through with the dubstep basslines of Zed Bias and Youngsta prevalent amongst classic techno from the likes of Robert Hood and Larry Heard’s Chicago house blueprint.
